We share the purpose of ensuring our children and students are:Learning to grow in their understanding of Christianity Nurturing the development of a biblical world view to provide a context for interpretation, interaction and analysis of the social, physical and spiritual environments. It involves developing a knowledge and an understanding of the Word of God, the personal application of God’s Word, a personal relationship with God and a knowledge of the diversity of other worldviews. Learning to relate, participate and care Developing skills and values for active participation in our democratic society; maintaining our uniqueness and identity as a Christian community; modelling Biblical life principles while promoting understanding about interdependence. It involves developing communication and social skills, mutual understanding and cooperation, respect for others and care for the environment; nurturing good personal relationships and a sense of community at the local, national and global level in the interests of building a healthy, cohesive society. Learning to live free, full, healthy lives Supporting the development of the whole person – mental, physical, emotional, social, aesthetic, and spiritual, It involves developing an understanding of the need for salvation and the purpose of redemption leading to self-knowledge and the capacity to create and enjoy a free, full and healthy life in Christ; growing in faith, resilience, optimism and adaptability and gaining confidence and skills in negotiating change, making judgements and setting goals. Learning to create purposeful futures Promoting the understanding of God’s purposes for the world and mankind and the role of the Holy Spirit in the setting and pursuing of individual goals and engagement with the creation of preferred futures. It involves developing the ability to set and pursue goals as family, Christian community, wider community and workforce members; gaining a sense of empowerment and contributing to sustainable futures at the local, national and global levels. Learning to act ethically Developing understandings about actions and consequences, and accepting responsibility as thoughtful and participating members of a just and democratic society recognizing God as the supreme authority and His Word as the standard by which we live. It involves developing an ethical framework to guide actions; understanding rights and responsibilities; and judging worth and appropriateness. Learning to learn Stimulating curiosity, encouraging a love of learning, discovering God given gifts, understanding personal temperaments and heart motivations, and valuing experience and a desire to continue learning throughout life. It involves developing high level literacy and numeracy skills, together with the ability to acquire, transform and convey information; developing confidence in the ability to learn; and developing the personal qualities of motivation, perseverance, self-discipline, and commitment to continual learning. Learning to think, discern, know, and understand Promoting the application of knowledge to new situations and the capacity to make informed decisions holding all things up to the truth of God’s Word. It involves developing the ability to reason, to think creatively, to reflect on the essential questions of human existence; learning to challenge and question propositions and theories; developing understandings about the crucial role of language in thinking; developing critical thinking skills and the ability to differentiate between fact and opinion. |
