The Perceptual Motor Program for Infants and Intermediate School is part of our holistic approach to neuro-development and learning efficiency. It is an early intervention program targeting fine and gross motor skills, attention and concentration, and general academic progress to accelerate learning and improve co-ordination, children’s classroom behaviour and their ability to focus on tasks. Learning difficulties are caused by neurological immaturity (developmental delay). Research shows that brain development can be altered through manipulation of environmental stimuli and experiences. Our program provides sensory motor activities to promote brain maturity. Sensory motor activities involve sensory integration. Sensory integration is the integration of all the information received through the senses (eyes, ears, skin, muscles, balance, taste, smell) and the integration of the two halves of the brain, to prepare children for academic learning. The program operates very simply. It involves 15 – 20 minutes of physical exercise each day. The exercises include balance activities and lateral and cross-lateral movements. We are combining this program with other physical activities and another program entitled, ‘H2O, Fruit & Veg To Go’. |
