Infants School (Prep – Year 2) is a place that is planned for the child. Its warm, caring and friendly environment is designed to encourage the child to develop according to their needs, abilities and interests

In keeping with the needs of young children, Infants School provides an environment to prepare children to become enthusiastic learners through five areas of learning.

Communicating

Young children learn to communicate through understanding others and being understood, developing early literacy skills.

Creating and Designing

Children’s ability to express their thoughts creatively is developed through a variety of experiences in dance, drama, media, music and visual arts.

Sense of Self and Others

Children develop independence through the development of gross and fine-motor skills and making healthy choices.

Social Learning and Living

Social skills are learned by building on the child’s awareness of being a member of many social groups, including family, gender, cultural and community. Children learn to respect and cooperate with other people.

Investigating and Understanding Environments

Students are encouraged to investigate and understand their environment, thus developing early numeracy, thinking and investigating skills.

Infant students learn best within a context that they are familiar with. Our teaching program will include experiences in the following contexts:

Play in both indoor and outdoor play environments encourage children to engage socially, physically and intellectually with people, objects and representations.

Real life situations enable children to build connections between the home and the community.

Investigations involving children interacting with people, objects and representations, allow them to enquire and explore relationships and test ideas.

Routines and Transactions are important opportunities for meaningful spontaneous and planning learning.

Focussed Learning and Teaching provides teachers with opportunities to purposefully and skilfully create learning opportunities for students.
