At Riverside we place learners at the center of all that we do. Our understanding of how learning occurs informs the way that we teach.  

Learning is a natural process that helps make meaning of the world.  It is determined by the learner, and continues throughout life.  Learning occurs in a variety of forms and forums, and is influenced by a variety of factors.

At Riverside, we believe that learning is most effective when it is placed within meaningful contexts and demonstrated when knowledge and understandings are applied to new experiences.

Learners are individuals with their own levels of skill, knowledge, understanding and background.  Our learning environment supports, challenges and extends students in a way that each student is able to experience a feeling of success.

We encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and develop self-management and perserverance within programs and pathways which involve reflection, negotiation and have clear expectations and goals.
