Year 11 Prevoc Maths Excursion

Dear Parent/ Carer,

Year 11 Prevocational Maths Noosa Day Trip


As a component of Year 11 Prevocational Maths assessment, students will be organising a local day trip. Part of this will involve experiencing the real world maths problems that can arise from organising such a trip. Students will be travelling to Noosa, which will include a bush walk, picnic lunch and swim at the patrolled Noosa Main beach.


WHEN:            1 August, 2017


WHERE:         Gympie McDonalds for breakfast

Noosa National Park for bush walk and picnic lunch

Noosa Main Beach for swimming


DEPART:       Arrive at Riverside at 7:00am for 7:30am departure by College bus


RETURN:       5:00pm to Riverside Christian College


COST:            $18 for transport (please give correct change)


BRING:           Picnic lunch (or money to buy breakfast and lunch), snacks, water bottle, towel and swimwear including swim shirt. (Students will not be allowed to swim without a swim shirt of suitable length).


UNIFORM:     Sneakers suitable for a minimum 7km walk and sun smart hat.

Casual dress – sun smart attire abiding by College policy. Students not suitably dressed will remain at school.

Yr11-12 Mod.History exc

11/12 Modern History Excursion

Senior Modern History students will be attending a seminar hosted by the Queensland History Teachers Association. The seminar will be a wonderful opportunity to hear from an expert, Dr Brian Hoepper, a renowned Queensland educator and history textbook author. It links in with their unit on Racism and will provide a useful basis for further exploration for research this Term.

WHEN:           10:00am to 2:30pm - Tuesday, 1 August

WHERE:         Hervey Bay High School

DEPART:       9:00am

RETURN:       2:00pm

BRING:           Morning tea, lunch and water bottle

UNIFORM:     Formal uniform including hat

Coding and Robotics Challenge

Selected students will attend the “Student Challenge Event: Gympie Scratch Coding and Robotics” – a day to promote coding and robotics in education and give students experience competing against other schools with their robotics and coding skills. The challenge is being hosted by SteminaBox.

WHEN:              Wednesday, 2 August

WHERE:           Jones Hill State School, Gympie

DEPART:          7:30am by College bus

RETURN:         Approximately 3:30pm

COST:               Nil.  All costs are covered by the College

BRING:             Morning tea, lunch and water bottle

Permission notes must be returned by Wednesday, 26 July. As there are limited spaces, forms not returned by the due date may result in places being offered to other students.

Year 8 Geography Excursion

On Thursday, 3 August, Year 8 will participate in an excursion to investigate various areas of land around Maryborough. This will enable them to select an appropriate location for their development proposal, which is required for their CBL project. More specifically, students will be considering aspects such as landform, topography, cultural significance, environmental protection and council zoning.

RETURN:       12.50pm

COST:            No cost. All expenses for travel are being covered by the College.

MDSS Athletics (10-12 year olds)

Selected children will represent Riverside Christian College at the Maryborough District School Sport Athletics Trials.

 WHEN:            Friday, 4 August 2017

 WHERE:         Tinana Athletics Oval, Gympie Road, Tinana.

 DEPART:       Arrive at College at 8:15am for departure by College bus.

RETURN:       2.40pm to the College.  If your child is competing in the 800m you will need to collect them at 3:30-4:00pm as per program.

COST:            No cost. Fees will be covered by the College.

UNIFORM:     Sports uniform including hat

 BRING:         Water bottle, morning tea/lunch, running shoes and spikes (Spikes allowed for all events except 800m, shotput and discus)

Please complete and return the Permission form and Consent form with payment by Friday, 28 July.

Junior College Disco

The Year 12 cohort of 2017 are hosting a Junior Disco for students in Prep to Year 5.

 A ticket pre order form is available to allow faster entry on the night. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Where:            Riverside Multi-purpose Hall

When:             Friday, 4 August

Start:               5:00pm

Finish:             7:00pm

Cost:               $5 per student      $8 for a family (2 or more students)

Theme:           Heroes and Villians

Tickets include entry, drink and snack, music, games and competitions.

Please note that the food included in the cover charge is light and students may need to eat dinner before the event.

Students may also bring additional money on the night to purchase items from the following stalls

Staff and Year 12 students will provide supervision, but parents of younger students are encouraged to remain for the evening. For the safety of all children attending we have created a ‘lock-in time’ of 5:15pm. This means that for students who wish to leave before 7:00pm a parent or carer must inform a supervising teacher before departure.

At the close of the event, students will be required to wait for parents inside the Hall, and will not be able to leave the venue unless accompanied by a parent.

HPV Competition - Benaraby

  • Benaraby Raceway

A number of our HPV teams will be travelling to Benaraby Raceway to compete in the Central Queensland HPV Championships. This will be great preparation for the Maryborough Technology Challenge in September.

WHEN:                       Friday, 11 August to Saturday, 12 August

WHERE:                     Benaraby Raceway               

DEPART:                   10:30am – Friday, 11 August

RETURN:                   Between 9.00pm and 9:30pm Saturday, 12 August

UNIFORM:                 Sports Uniform

COST:                        $20 (covering transport, registration and campsite) to be handed in with Permission form by the Friday, 4 August.

MEALS:                      Students will need to BYO or bring money for Friday dinner, Saturday lunch & Saturday dinner ($50 is suggested).

Saturday breakfast – BYO or pre-order for $10 (pre-orders already submitted)

BRING:                       Pillow, sleeping bag, sleeping mat/ inflatable mattress, clothes and personal hygiene items. No swags please as space is limited in the bus.

Each team will be organising their own tenting arrangements.
